Closing Africa’s Weather Data Gap Through Partnerships

FreedPer Scientific’s Managing Director, Mr. Freedom Mukanga, recently participated as a speaker and panelist at the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Forum on U.S.–Africa Commercial Partnerships in Nairobi, Kenya. During the plenary session, Mr. Mukanga joined fellow African and international business leaders to discuss the continued impact of the Fellowship and the importance of building meaningful partnerships between Africa and the United States.

A key focus of his contribution was Africa’s urgent need to strengthen weather observation infrastructure. Reliable weather and environmental data is essential for disaster preparedness, agriculture, aviation, water resources management, energy planning and many other weather-sensitive sectors.

Mr. Mukanga called for stronger collaboration between governments, development partners, educational institutions and the private sector to help close Africa’s weather data gap.
